Since Game Update 53 goes live, the annoying memory allocation error keeps popping up which causes the game to crash. In order to solve the problem, many players are trying to find out what caused this problem and post it on the forum.
And Greg Rothgar Spence, EQ2 Plat Lead Programmer, claimed on the official forums that they have discovered the roots of the problem and are still working to solve the bug:
There are actually two issues coming into play. There appears to be an issue with data not being cleared from the cache as aggressively as it should. This is not really a memory leak; it is just the client holding on to things that it can probably get rid of, especially after zoning. Then there is also the issue of memory becoming fragmented which eventually causes the allocation error. Both should really be fixed if possible, but as soon as we have a fix for one or the other, we will get it out asap. Fixing either issue should keep the client from crashing as much as it is.
